Last fall the Presbytery of the Alleghenies’ Administrative Commission ordered Beverly Heights Presbyterian Church to “…immediately suspend association or communication with the Theopolis Institute and Peter Leithart while Ministerial Committee inquires into their theological alignment or misalignment with the Essential Tenets of the EPC and the Westminster Confession.”

The report was finally released at the May POA meeting.  You can read the report below.  Kyle, Peter, and I read the report and recorded another Special Edition to discuss its findings.  I am happy to share with you that the report vindicates BHPC and our engagement with Dr. Leithart and Theopolis stating,

Because the Theopolis Institute explicitly affirms “the historic faith as presented in the Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds, and in the great statements of the Reformation such as the Canons of Dordt, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Belgic, Westminster Confessions, Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion and Second Helvetic Confession”, it should be acknowledged that the Theopolis Institute formally aligns with “Essentials” of the EPC and the Westminster Confession of Faith.

I’m glad the POA will allow us to resume conversations with Dr. Leithart.  I think he’s worth talking to and I think it is worth noting that in a recent YouTube video, Dr. Leithart pays tribute to Professor John Frame, who is considered by many to be a towering theologian.  You’ll know from our June Scattered Seeds Newsletter that Professor Frame is a son of Beverly Heights Presbyterian Church and he  grew up in Mt. Lebanon.  Dr. Leithart shares how Professor Frame’s book, The Doctrine of the Knowledge of God is the second most influential book he has ever read.

Even though Theopolis is vindicated, there are still significant shortcomings in the Ministerial Committee’s report that Peter, Kyle, and I discussed.
